DC encourages cooperation

21 May 2020

Ngamiland district commissioner has encouraged community members to continue adhering to health safety measures as government continues to ease extreme social distancing protocols.

Government announced May 18 that permits will no longer be a requirement for movement within zones  but would be required for  one to move between zones.

In an interview, Mr Keolopile Leipego said easing of movement within zones did not mean that COVID-19 pandemic was over hence the need to continue observing safety protocols.

Mr Leipego highlighted the need to continue using facemasks and practice social distancing of 1-2 metres between individuals in public areas.

“COVID 19 is real and we should all join hands and take the responsibility to keep on fighting the invisible enemy,” he said.

He also indicated that they expected more businesses to open doors and a lot of economic activities to resume.

However, he said they would keep monitoring the situation, thus reminded businesses to comply with regulations and allow inspection exercises to take place so as to meet requirements to start operation.

To that effect, he said they had dispatched two teams to facilitate the exercise and ensure all had implemented all basic requirements in response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

He further appealed to the community to cooperate with the business community stating that they should register, sanitise and have temperatures checked.

On the other hand, he indicated that the Department of Transport and Road Safety together with law enforcement officers had started checking all truck drivers delivering goods and those passing through the district.

Tuckers, he said were checked temperatures and were also checked to find out if they had been tested at border posts.

Meanwhile, Mr Leipego indicated that there were currently no COVID-19 suspects quarantined in the district, adding all those who were quarantined had been discharged recently after testing negative. Ends
