We Can Charitable Trust donated 50 masks to dikgosi in Serowe yesterday. 

The trust's director, Ms Mmapula Moatswi, said the organisation was formed by senior teacher sports and art teachers in various schools in Serowe region in 2018 and had now launched country wide.

Ms Moatswi said it was imperative for  dikgosi, community and private sector to support government  during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

She said the trust was committed to fighting the coronavirus and mitigating its impact on communities.

She said government put up measures to  individuals and public to adhere to in combating the spread of COVID-19.

Regarding the development of arts,  Ms Moatswi said government had identified arts and culture sector as another key vehicle towards promotion of sustainable economic development.

She emphasized that the trust had the potential to develop a child from a tender age by imparting life skills and guidance to  utilise their talents to earn a living.

“I have no doubt that with the empowerment from the trust, the young generation of today and the generations to come will get a greater opportunity to shine and thrive with their endowed talents,” said Ms Moatswi.

Ms Moatswi, a professional artist, senior teacher sports and art teacher said following further studies in art abroad, she felt that arts teachers were under utilised in Botswana.  

Ms Moatswi said the primary objective of the trust was to unearth, develop and nurture the creative and performance talent in young people as well as coordinate and enhance the growth of creative and performing arts from the grassroots level, focusing on people of all ages, whether schooling or out of school.

Receiving the donation, Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane thanked board of the trust for having come to a worthwhile decision to establish an institution that had the interest of youth at heart.

Kgosi Sediegeng said he hoped that dikgosi would support the trust and thanked the trust for its generosity in donating masks to dikgosi in particular because they are the pillars of the nation. Ends
