Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) station manager in Mochudi says 291 drivers have been issued with transport movement permits.
This followed recent lifting of some public transport service restrictions in accordance with regulations of the Emergency Powers Act (COVID-19) of 2020.
Speaking in an interview, Ms Kemoneilwe Ramakoloi, said DRTS monitored compliance on a daily basis and so far operators were complying with set protocols.
“If public transport operators are found in breach of any protocols, they will be charged in accordance with the relevant regulations.” She said.
Ms Ramakoloi said staff in her office used sanitisers and frequently washed hands with soap and clean water.
“The department also provides staff with face masks and they also ensure social distancing as prescribed by the director of health services. Their temperatures are checked when they report for duty and when they knock off,” she continued.
She further added that all customers were sanitised upon arrival, their temperatures checked and they were registered for easy contact tracing and no one was allowed to enter the office without a face mask.
“While waiting for assistance in the queue, they practice social distancing and close monitoring is done to ensure they abide by all these rules,” Ms Ramakoloi said. Ends
