VP applauds Batswana for compliance

The Vice President (VP), Mr Slumber Tsogwane has applauded Batswana for their compliance to the COVID-19 pandemic protocols as demonstrated  by the low numbers of local transmission recorded so far.

Speaking during the Steel Galaxy donation of medical goods to Botswana government’s COVID-19 pandemic response worth P50 million, Mr Tsogwane expressed said  the donation will come in handy in ensuring that Botswana makes positive strides in fighting the pandemic spread.

The medical goods include medical gloves, KN95 masks, disposable surgery masks, medical goggles, disposal gowns and infra-red thermometers.

Mr Tsogwane applauded Steel Galaxy for donating amid challenging economic times characterised by low profit margins experienced by companies.

For his part, Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Lemogang Kwape commended Steel Galaxy for the noble gesture, adding that the donation will go a long way in helping government to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

He said Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) remains a critical commodity in protecting frontline service providers as they go about fighting the scourge.

Dr Kwape said the donation comes at a time when economies of many countries are challenged and access and supply of PPE is a nightmare.

He encouraged communities to continue to adhere to the COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures with the hope of averting the disease.

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs Governance and Public Administration, Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu also hailed the donor for living up to their principle of corporate social responsibility.

The contribution of Steel Galaxy to the economy is immense as they have created numerous employment opportunities to Batswana, the Assistant Minister noted.

Steel Galaxy Director, Mr Zhonwen Hu indicated that the donation was made possible through their Chinese based sister company Shangai Yioue Investment who facilitated the procurement of medical goods in China.

Mr Zhongwen Hu also in his personal capacity pledged P255 000 in cash to the government COVID-19 Relief Fund account as well as 20 000 disposable surgical masks, 3 000 medical gloves and 1000 disposal gowns. Ends
