The World Group of Companies has donated 2 000 food hampers to Mahalapye Sub-district to support Batswana whenever and wherever there is need.

Handing over the donation to Mahalapye Sub-District Council, Builders World Mahalapye Managing Director, Mr Munazir Hussain said the company would continue lending its support to Batswana.

"In line with the national vision of a caring and compassionate nation, it is our help to the people who are less privileged and are in need in this difficult time. That is our motto, we deal with you and we serve you all the time," he said.

Receiving the donation, the Sub-district chairperson, Councillor Banthasetse Merementsi thanked World Group of Companies for its generous gesture and assured them that the food hampers would be distributed to the beneficiaries without delay. 

He said the donation would help rescue beneficiaries from the debilitating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The donation comes at a time when we have, so far, distributed food hampers to 19 079 households out of a total of 24 796 households assessed. We are still assessing households in farming localities and those who were omitted during the initial assessment," he added.

He said the food hampers would be divided equitably between the sub-district's four constituencies, which are; Mahalapye East, Mahalapye West, Sefhare/Ramokgonami and Shoshong.

About COVID-19 pandemic, Mr Merementsi said ‘this pandemic is not only a threat to human life, but has also brought serious economic and social impact around the globe’.
 

He expressed gratitude to the company for heeding President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi's call to individuals and companies to donate towards the COVID-19 pandemic relief programme.  

When the 2020/2021 national budget was prepared and subsequently passed by Parliament, Mr Merementsi said, it was not known then that the country was going to be affected by a pandemic, hence not factored in the budget.

"As the sub-district, we are humbled by the generous donation from World Group of Companies. Please convey our appreciation for the kind gesture to the management of your company. God will double his blessing and make your company to prosper," he added. Ends
