Disinfection exercise ongoing in Maun

11 May 2020

Green Flap cleaning company has voluntarily embarked on a massive exercise to fumigate Maun Administrative Authority (MAA) premises in response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the officials from the company, Mr Pillar Isaacs revealed in an interview on May 9 that they saw it fit to make their contribution by disinfecting public areas such as government offices and open spaces.

He said they started fumigating at the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) and now they were at the council premises, explaining that they were using chemicals, which are safe for human well-being, noting that after four hours, fumigated places could be accessed.

MAA Principal environment health officer, Mr Daniel Olerilwe appreciated that Green Flap volunteered to assist in disinfection exercise.

This followed the easing of the extreme social distancing regulation and that departments should ensure safety of employees as they return to work.

The council, he said, had already procured masks, sanitizers and currently working round the clock to ensure availability of equipment for temperature checks.

He said they would also continue observing safety measures such as social distancing and washing of hands with soap regularly.

Mr Olerilwe said they intended to roll out the exercise to public places that people frequented such as the bus rank and shopping malls, adding that the council vehicles would also be disinfected.

Furthermore, he explained that they would embark on inspection exercise of businesses to ensure compliance to the set COVID-19 regulations. ENDS
