Flooding causes closure of KachikauSatau road

09 May 2020

Kachikau/Satau road, currently undergoing re-gravelling and culvert installation, has been closed due to floods from Chobe River.

Heritage Contractors, a company engaged in the re-gravelling of the road, closed the road yesterday (May 8).

Project supervisor, Mr Richard Charlie, said in an interview that they closed the road due to the water that covered portions of the road. “We warn drivers not to attempt to drive through the road especially on still waters otherwise it will be at their own risk,” he added.

He said the project, which stands at over 30 per cent and cost over P35 million, will continue despite disturbances caused by the flooding. He said the company will block waters from the road side to prevent it from crossing over the road.

Mr Charlie further advised motorists to use alternative routes that connected Satau through Parakarungu from Kachikau.

Meanwhile, some residents of Satau explained that the flooding of the Chobe River was a blessing in disguise, but said alternative route was too far. One resident, Mr Atamelang Maruza they had long warned that the floods will cause travel disturbances. ends
