Official calls on beneficiaries to be patient

07 May 2020

Shashemooke based Social and Development (S&CD) Officer has called on COVID-19 food hampers beneficiaries to exercise patience.

Mr Basimane Mothoagae said during an interview with BOPA Wednesday, May 07 that even though his office was working around the clock to distribute food rations, some beneficiaries continued to crowd the office.

This, he said worked against extreme social distancing guidelines.

To ensure compliance to the social distancing policy, Social Welfare department had resolved to drop off food hampers at the doorsteps of beneficiaries.

In view of this, he asked beneficiaries to exercise self-control and assured them that they would receive the packages.

According to Mr Mothoagae, a total of 493 people had been assisted with food packages since April 27, 2020.

The department of Crop Production official working in conjunction with S&CD said all was well save for some seasonal items such as watermelons which were likely to run out of supply soon.

Mr Rapson Mahabile also doubted local farmers’ capacity to meet the demand for eggs. He said however that in the event that occurred, eggs would be sourced elsewhere.

Area Councilor, Isaac Nyathi shared sentiments by the two officials noting challenges such as limited time given to suppliers to procure items from Francistown to give out to beneficiaries. He said suppliers should at least be given up to three days. Ends
