07 May 2020
The President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has received 4.2 tonnes of medical equipment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through facilitation of Mr Steve Harvey's family.
When receiving the donation at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA) yesterday (May 6), President Masisi expressed gratitude to the noble gesture by Mr Harvey and wife, Marjorie.
He said the donation came through when Botswana was almost at its lowest to deal with COVID-19, particularly with challenges of acquiring equipment, which was in short supply.
President Masisi also thanked the UAE for responding graciously to a request from the Harvey family.
For his part, the Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Lemogang Kwape, said the donation would go a long way in helping Botswana fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the frontline staff would be more protected and be able to deliver on the task of preventing COVID-19 spread. Dr Kwape noted that the rest of the consignment will arrive today. ENDS
