Maun First National Bank (FNB), through the FNBB Foundation, has donated 10 000 bottled water worth over P40 000 to Botswana Defence Force and police officers in Ngamiland District.

Speaking during handing over of the donation, FNB branch manager, Ms Kelebogile Disang, said the support followed government plea to private sector to make donations towards the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

She said the bank had already contributed towards the fund, but stated that they saw it fit to assist the law enforcement officers in Maun because they were undertaking a mammoth task of monitoring movement of residents to ensure 100 per cent daily compliance with the extreme social distancing rules.

In addition, she said the officers were also doing a commendable job to ensure safety and protection of the communities and their property

The bottled water, Ms Disang said, would be distributed to patrolling officers and those at road blocks across the district.

Ms Disang also acknowledged that they bought the goods from a youth company as a way of cushioning the business, adding that the pandemic had negatively affected many businesses .

Maun-based commander, Major Boikanyo Kelebeng, thanked FNB for responding positively towards government plea.

He said law enforcement officers were doing their best to ensure compliance, adding that they also patrolled border fences in an effort to curb coronavirus spread and also to ensure safety to the community.

The donation, Major Kelebeng said, would motivate officers to perform beyond expectation in their daily duties. “It is pleasing to see organizations recognizing our efforts, we humbly appreciate the support,” he added. Ends
