Ghanzi needs P17m for primary schools
06 May 2020
Ghanzi District Council is expected to spend P17 million on initiatives geared towards improving hygiene and making sure that all its primary schools are compliant to COVID-19 precautions.
In an interview on Tuesday, the council secretary, Mr Dick Kalantle, stated that initiatives included maintaining and building additional toilets, installing hand washing basins in all primary schools as well as provision of sanitisers, disinfectants and hiring temporary cleaners at a budget of P8.8 million.
However, he said after some adjustments such as ratio of 1:25 pupils per toilet, their estimates escalated to P17 million and they had already spent about P4.6 million.
Mr Kalantle noted they failed to beat the initial deadline of end of April because of shortage of plumbing materials and artisans and were racing against the clock to meet the revised deadline of May 22. Ends
