Youth company puts smile on residents' faces

Residents of Tsutsubega settlement in the outskirts of Maun have praised a Maun-based company, Infinite Trails, for supporting them during difficult times.
The company, Tuesday, donated goods comprising food hampers, masks and a slaughtered cow; all worth over P12 000.
The company also bought petrol for an individual who would volunteer to distribute the food hampers to 96 households in the area.
Some elders took turns to praise the company for a job well done, noting that they had long awaited social workers to conduct assessment, but up to date nothing happened.
They appreciated the assistance, noting that it came at the right time since many were already complaining of hunger because they depended on their field produce.
Kgosi Edwin Maleho thanked the company for demonstrating love towards his villagers, noting that due to the extreme social distancing regulation, it was not easy to apply for travel permits to go to Maun.
Most of the villagers, he said, were unemployed while some survived through Ipelegeng programme and currently life was unbearable for them.
Kgosi Maleho said community welfare was paramount considering the consequences brought by COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the directors of the youth company, Mr Lemme Dintwe, explained that the company was formed last year December with the aim to undertake charity activities and assist the needy society in Maun and its surrounds, which seemed to be neglected.
He said they had identified Tsutsubega community because they were far from services, and it was difficult for them to apply for permits considering the distance to Maun.
Mr Dintwe hoped that the donation would augment government efforts during trying times and also make a huge difference in the lives of the communities.
He said they were assisting communities from the goodness of their hearts as the company was not generating any income.
“We are just popping out monies from our pockets to meet the need of our communities,” he added.
The area councillor, who is also the deputy chairman of North West District Council (NWDC), Mr Lekone Masoko commended the company, saying its efforts were highly appreciated more so that their company was newly established.
He said most villagers across the district had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciated that some companies were coming forth to reduce the impact.
Cllr Masoko admitted that there had been a delay to assess residents but stated that a decision had been taken to give priority to residents residing in areas prone to floods. Ends
