05 May 2020

All 48 people, who were identified during a contact tracing and testing exercise in the Mahalapye Sub-District have tested negative for coronavirus.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Mahalapye District Health Management Team public relations officer, Ms Pauline Bontle, said the exercise that began April 28 was completed on April 30 and the test results were out May 4.

"Of the 48 contacts, 25 are from Mahalapye and 23 from Mookane. They all tested negative for coronavirus," she said.

The contact tracing and testing exercise, Ms Bontle said, was conducted by the ACHAP team with support from Mahalapye DHMT.

"We received another client from Mookane Clinic with COVID-19 symptoms. During our interrogations, we found out that the client lives in Metsimotlhabe and had traveled to Francistown before lockdown and came to Mookane three days before we began the exercise. The client sought medical assistance at Mookane clinic," she said.

"We have since tested the client for coronavirus and is currently on 14-day isolation. The results came out negative, but the patient will only be discharged after completing the 14-day period," she added.

Ms Bontle appealed to the public to continue protecting themselves and others by complying with all set measures to curb the spread of the virus. ENDS
