Chobe Member of Parliament, Mr Machana Shamukuni says the re-gravelling and installation of culverts for the 16km Kachikau-Satau-Parakarungu road is progressing well despite initial hiccups.
Speaking during a tour of the project on May 2, Mr Shamukuni said the two-phased project, which commenced last year October, would cost government over P35 million.
Mr Shamukuni, who is also the Assistant Ministers of Tertiary Education, Research Science and Technology, said the project, undertaken by Heritage Constructors, was going accordingly despite encountering some hiccups such as unavailability of materials; a problem that had long been solved.
The first phase of the road is the nine-kilometre Kachikau/Satau road and the remaining phase being the Satau/Parakarungu road.
He applauded the contractor to have elevated the road in some critical spots to avoid destruction by the waters from the flowing Chobe River.
He said an alternative route that connects Parakarungu and Satau from Kachikau had been arranged in case Chobe River flows.
Currently, the contractor is working on closing some critical spots damaged by the flooding and had also created alternative roads where the damage is uncontrollable.
Several internal gravel roads have also been constructed in Satau affected by water from the Chobe River plains. Ends
