Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Lemogang Kwape has commended Desai Charity Trust and Senyetse Choir for uplifting the spirit of self-reliance and assisting Batswana.
Dr Kwape said this when receiving groceries worth P100 000 from Desai Charity Trust and also 1 000 bathing soaps valued at P6 000 from Senyetse Choir.
The minister, who is also MP for Kanye South, applauded the duo for reviving the spirit of reliance, which had been instilled by ‘our forefathers’.
“I am pleased that the goods, which have been donated are exactly what is needed by the ministry for the containment of the COVID-19 virus, as it encourages washing of hands,” he said.
He commended them for digging deep into their pockets and sharing what they had with the society, thereby showing compassion.
Dr Kwape said the goods would go a long way towards assisting those in need in Kanye, while some groceries would also assist in Jwaneng, where Desai Wholesalers operates.
He further acknowledged that Senyetse Choir had promised to spread COVID-19 messages through songs.
Also, Dr Kwape said he was pleased that some people, who had tested positive for COVID-19 had recovered.
“This proves that victory is iminent, if we can all follow advice from the Ministry of Health and Wellness,” he said.
Dr Kwape further pleaded with all to continue using facemasks to prevent the spread of the virus, especially when forced to leave their homes.
In addition, he advised people to stay home and apply for permits online if forced to leave their places instead of overcrowding at their Kgotlas.
For his part, social and community development committee chairperson, Mr Alex Ramatshokgwana, thanked the duo for heeding government’s call to assist during the extreme social distancing period.
He noted that the donation came at the time when it was most needed.
Mr Ramatshokgwana further encouraged the business community to assist in whatever they could.
He assured Batswana that the social workers were working around the clock to distribute the food hampers to those in need. ENDS
