Debswana hands over food hampers in Rakops

In an endeavour to support government’s initiative to cushion the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, Debswana has handed over food hampers worth P380 000 to 400 families in Rakops on May 2.
The food hampers will be distributed to Kedia and Xere communities to supplement government food hampers initiative.
Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) general manager, Mr Bakani Motlhabani said the company took a decision to donate food hampers to some people as way of curbing movement of people to the shops during extreme social distancing period.
Mr Motlhabani further indicated that Debswana had spent P5 million to produce 250 000 reusable masks, which would be distributed to Debswana employees, business partners and frontline workers such as Botswana Defence Force, Botswana Police and government essential workers.
The tender to produce masks, he said would be awarded to local textile companies adding that one such company, would be Ponder Fashion and Fabrics in Toromoja.
Debswana has also partnered with Water Utilities Corporation to assist with provision of potable water in Letlhakane, Mokobaxane, Kedia and Xhumo.
Councillor Batsweletse Kgagamedi of Tsienyane West expressed gratitude towards the contribution made by Debswana. ENDS
