Mahalapye Sub-District Council assesses 18 700 households

02 May 2020

Mahalapye Sub-district Council has recommended about 16 000 out of over 18 000 households assessed for COVID-19 food relief baskets.

Assessment has been completed in 39 of the sub-district’s 40 villages with Sefhare the only outstanding village.

Speaking in an interview on May 1, sub-district chairperson, Mr Banthasetse Merementsi said 2 598 households were not recommended.

“Our main worry is the delay in supplying food which is very slow. All our suppliers buy food from Sefalana which is also running out of stock. This delay is worrying because it is slowing down the supply of food packages,” he said.

Another challenge, he said, was that most of those engaged to deliver the food packages with their vehicles were now pulling out following government's reduction of the delivery fee from P25 to P15. ENDS
