Kgosi Gokgathang Moalosi of Sankuyo says community trusts are mandated to ensure their communities are provided for in times of need.
Kgosi Moalosi made the remarks at a donation of food hampers worth P64 000 by Sankuyo Tshwaragano Management Trust to residents to lessen the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said 152 households would benefit, including officers in the village, adding that the donation was for May since villagers had received food hampers from Wilderness Safaris.
Trust chairperson, Mr Charles Ntema said the donation followed a request by the village leadership to assist residents.
Mr Ntema said the trust's board had a challenge of meeting residents due to COVID-19 regulations. He added that they had channeled money budgeted for youth development to buying food hampers.
Sankuyo Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Kobamelo Simalumba said the trust was a noble development for residents since it was instrumental in times of need.
Through the donation, Mr Simalumba said the trust was affirming its mandate of assisting residents. ENDS
