02 May 2020
Chobe MP, Mr Machana Shamukuni is expected to visit Satau this weekend to assess the water situation in the Chobe River. Water is threatening to submerge the village.
The MP, who is also Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, is expected to be accompanied by the chairperson of Chobe District Council, Mr Amos Mabuku and other district leaders.
The tiny village is partly surrounded by water from the flowing Chobe River and the eastern part of the village is more affected.
A temporary airstrip constructed recently for aerial spraying of locust is submerged.
The gravel road between Kachikau and Satau is also covered by water and some culverts have been damaged. The use of vehicles to travel to fields and cattle posts is also risky.
Livestock in the village is confined to small pieces of land for grazing while some crops are covered by water. Some farmers have been forced to flee their fields and leave their crops at the maturing stage.
Chobe district commissioner, Ms Sekgabo Makgosa recently visited the village to assess the situation and urged residents to be extra vigilant. Ends
