Francistown City Council has issued COVID-19 food rations to over 3 500 households out of the 13 000 recommended.
Acting chief social and community development officer at the city council, Mr Gabobofane Mbwe said the number of recipients was increasing, as the distribution was ongoing.
He also said over 18 000 families had been assessed, and that those not recommended had reliable income. Mr Mbwe said assessors targeted informal sector workers such as hawkers, street vendors and car washers.
He also said informal sector employees married to civil servants were legible for the aid. Mr Mbwe noted that they had challenges such as many people living in one household.
The other challenge, he said, was that of food supply as some shops had ran out of stock. ENDS
