Serowe Prison warders donate food hampers

28 Apr 2020

Serowe Prison warders have donated food hampers and toiletries worth P1 650 to aid an unemployed mother of three, Ms Tshephiso Keboetseng of Mauba ward in Serowe.

Handing over the gifts on April 28, Serowe Prison's Assistant Superintendent Phillip Mokoto said the move was meant to support government’s strategy in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the prison warders forked out the money from their pockets to support the beneficiary, especially with that the COVID-19 lockdown made it even more difficult for the mother to fend for her children.

“As citizens of this country we are committed to supporting government and the community during this challenging period. The donation is meant to ease her life during this lockdown,” Mr Mokoto said.

On his team's behalf, he pledged to maintain the spirit of helping those who needed  support.

Ms Keboetseng, who failed to suppress her tears of joy, thanked prisons for their selflessness.

Ms Keboetseng has been living with her uncle since the death of her parents some time ago.

She used to work at one of the hotels in Serowe, but the job was terminated at the commencement of national extreme social distancing on April 3. Ends
