Do not visit service centres - WUC
25 Apr 2020
Water Utilities Cooperation (WUC) has encouraged its customers to desist from visiting service centres for billing enquiries and payment.
A press release from WUC says customers should use self-service channels to submit meter reading, report leakages as well as checking and paying bills.
The corporation says it will deal with billing and queries post the extreme social distancing period and interventions will be put in place to allow for metre reading, account reconciliations and payment arrangements where the need arises.
Thus, the corporation encourages customers to stay home and wash hands with soap frequently with soap, adding however water should be used sparingly for equitable distribution.
The release follows a statement issued by the corporation on April 21, which intended to inform its customers on operation times throughout the COVID-19 restricted movement period.
The statement was to guide customers and the public on WUC’s preparedness to continue providing clean water and services rendered to safeguard the nation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The release says services that would be offered during the extreme social distancing period include water connection and bowsing, maintenance and repair of pipe bursts and leakages, sewage systems and spillages.
Reconnections of all disconnected connections is ongoing.
It says water quality and queries will also be attended during the pandemic, while purchasing of prepaid tokens at revenue offices would be done on Mondays and Thursdays.
Again, the release says all revenue services are closed except on Mondays and Thursdays only for the prepaid token purchases.
However, the corporation says receipt and processing of new connection applications and physical meter readings will not be offered during this period.
Customers are assured that they will not be disconnected due to non-payment during the COVID-19 pandemic. ENDS
