Letlhakeng distributes food baskets

24 Apr 2020

Letlhakeng Sub-district has started distributing COVID-19 relief food baskets to 5 500 homes that have qualified as beneficiaries.

This followed assessment of 7 849 homes out of the estimated 9 470 homes as per the 2011 population census.

Speaking in an interview, senior assistant council secretary (SACS), Mr Joseph Segopa, said by April 23, they had already assisted 1 040 homes with food packages and officers were on the ground to continue with assistance.

The exercise was initially slow since social workers were focused on assessments and not distribution but they have been urged to help speed food package supply, he noted.

Mr Segopa said they also faced transport challenges since their trucks could not reach certain homes but they had since engaged small vehicles to assist them to reach every home on the list.

He noted that they assessed most villages in the sub-district and would now be starting with homes at cattle posts and ploughing fields.

Furthermore, he asked residents to remain calm because they would reach them by end of month.

Mr Segopa said they were worried by some element of abuse some some public officers had reportedly  benefited from the programme though they were not supposed to.

They will investigate the matter and advised all officers engaged to avoid any form of corrupt practices and stick to the moral code.ENDS
