Ignorance on COVID-19 regulations worrisome

Kasane Police Station Commander Superintendent James Maabong has raised concern that some people are ignorant of the extreme social distancing regulations.
Supt Maabong explained in an interview that his area of jurisdiction continued to register cases of offenders who do not adhere to the regulations with some being repeat offenders.
He explained that the police were aware that during month ends, many people from all corners of the district flocked Kasane to get payments in the banks and also to buy groceries in the shops.
He said police officers were monitoring the situation during this period to avoid crowding as well as to make sure that everyone adhered to the social distancing measures.
One of the regulations, he noted, stipulates that ‘Where a law enforcement officer has reasonable cause to believe that a person is in violation of the regulations, he may stop, detain, question and arrest such person and confiscate any vehicle being used by that person, if he considers it necessary so to do.’
Supt Maabong said section 7 of the regulations clearly indicated that during the lockdown period, every person shall remain confined to their place of residence, exclusive of the yard space to avoid contact outside his household, except when it is necessary. ENDS
