Two businessmen donate to Chobe United

23 Apr 2020

Two Kasane businessmen, Asok Kumar and Sivaji Raju have donated food hampers to Chobe United football players who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The food hampers, worth over P9 000 include maize meal, rice, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, cooking oil and bathing soap.

Mr Kumar who owns Pizza Plus and Raju who owns Kazungula Stationary said the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility to give back to the community in which they do business.

They said government alone cannot assist everybody, therefore they decided to come on board and give a helping hand.

Mr Kumar has been assisting, not only Chobe United but also other underprivileged members of the society.

Chobe Regional Football Association chairperson, Mr Karabo Matlhaba thanked the two businessmen for their generosity during this difficult time.

He said the donation would go a long way in improving the welfare of the players, adding that the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development was working around the clock to find means of assisting affected teams during this outbreak.

Mr Matlhaku appealed to other business people to come forth and lend a helping hand, noting that there other teams in the region were equally affected.

Chobe United, which is at the summit of the Chobe Regional Football Association second division league log, has 22 players, five of which are less privileged whilst the rest, who mostly worked in the hospitality industry were either on unpaid breaks or lost their jobs due to the outbreak.

The players were assessed by the Chobe District Council and qualified for the COVID-19 relief Food basket. Ends
