The DC, Ms Makgosa said the food would be handed over to the council, which had been tasked with the responsibility to assess and distribute relief packages to needy families.
Over 700 households have been assessed by the council for possible assistance in the Chobe West enclave that includes the villages of Mabele, Kavimba, Kachikau, Satau and Parakarungu.
Out of the figure, over 500 households have been recommended for the food basket whilst 300 have already received their food baskets with 175 pending.
Assessment for the Chobe East enclave villages that include the villages of Kasane, Kazungula, Lesoma and Pandamatenga is currently on-going.
The assessment exercise started by targeting 54 households, which were the most distressed families needing urgent help.
Chief Community Development Officer for Chobe District Council, Mr Ogoditsemang Semele said out of the 54 families, 50 were assisted by the council whilst the remaining four got assistance from a good samaritan businessman from Kazungula.
Some of the donations were from the area Member of Parliament, Mr Machana Shamukuni who donated 80 bags of sorghum and 80 bags of mealie meal while Kasane Red Cross Society donated food baskets for 10 people.
Mr Semele said the public was responding well to COVID-19 precautionary measures as prescribed by health officials. Ends
