22 Apr 2020

Francistown City Council (FCC) has provided sanitary facilities to 20 primary schools.

City clerk, Mr Lopang Pule, relayed during a media briefing that the exercise was part of the city council's various interventions in response to COVID-19 pandemic.

The maintenance of malfunctioning primary school toilets commenced on April 7. To expedite maintenance works, four in-house teams had been deployed to do the repairs.

In addition, Mr Pule stated that four contractors had been contracted to install 12 double wash troughs in 12 schools, including carrying out associated plumbing and drainage works.

“The remaining eight schools will also get double troughs and the associated plumbing and drainage works through eight contracted Artisans,’ he said.

Furthermore, Mr Pule noted the council was also fixing malfunctioning electrical components of primary school toilets. So far electrification fo 10 out of the 20 such school facilities had been completed by an in-house team.

Procurement of COVID-19 related cleaning materials and cleaning equipment as well as extra cleaners for all facilities was an ongoing exercise albeit slowly due to logistical problems on the part of suppliers who procure raw materials from South Africa.

Each primary school would also be issued with six new disposal bins. So far 53 waste bins had been supplied to the council. Ends
