Ghanzi registers more than 3000 households

Ghanzi East sub-district council Senior Assistant Council Secretary (SACS) Mr Thatayotlhe Balapi says they have already registered 3705 households so far for COVID-19 food basket relief in the ongoing assessments.
Speaking to BOPA, Mr Balapi said this registration runs concurrently with assessment of eligible beneficiaries.
To beef up the staff, he said they had engaged 14 social workers on temporary basis of which two are retired individuals while 12 are graduates.
Mr Balapi stated that they had already given out 11 tents to households with many people to ensure social distancing.
Senior Social Welfare Officer in Ghanzi East sub-district, Ms Masego Kgomotso explained that prior to the household registration, they had been helping the distressed individuals and 397 out of 451 eligible candidates were assisted.
Charleshill sub-district council SACS, Mr Christopher Maramba stated 2838 households had been registered for COVID-19 food basket relief in his jurisdiction.
Mr Maramba said they had engaged seven graduates on a temporary basis to augment human resource and social workers from other government departments had also been engaged.
“We have engaged social workers from Department of Youth, District AIDS Coordinator office, BDF and Poverty eradication.” He said.
Mr Maramba noted that food from school hostels and primary school had been collected and rationed.
He also stated that Charleshill farmers association had pledged three cows and would be delivered as pre-packed meat for easy distribution to the beneficiaries. Ends
