Elephant kills Etsha 13 man

A 27-year-old man of Etsha 13 was on April 16, killed by an elephant at Malatso fields in the western side of the village.
Gumare Police Station Commander, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe said the incident occurred around 6am.
Supt. Zilawe said the deceased and other family members noticed that an elephant had intruded into the farm and started hitting drums to scare it away.
He said the deceased followed the elephant’s spoors from the farm into a nearby bush and that he bumped into the elephant, which attacked and killed him.
He said others who stayed behind heard the elephant trumpeting.
They suspected the elephant had killed him and they called the police.
Supt. Zilawe said a team of police and wildlife officers attended to the incident and found the victim lying unconscious on the ground.
He was taken to Gumare Primary Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.
He said the incident was the first of its kind since the beginning of the year.
He also advised the public to report to relevant authorities for assistance when wild animals encroached into their settlements to avoid endangering their lives. Ends
