LUCARA Botswana donates food hampers

Lucara Botswana has donated food hampers worth P500 000 to assist the less privileged members of society in Boteti during the COVID-19 extreme social distancing period.

Lucara Botswana general manager, Mr Johane Mchive said on April 15 that the food hampers would be donated to 1 662 families in Boteti Sub-district.

He stated that the donation was in line with Lucara Botswana’s sustainable development goals of no poverty, good health and wealth as well as partnerships for goals.

Lucara Botswana board, he further said had injected P3 million into COVID-19 Relief Fund, while the mine had also donated food hampers worth P300 000 in Moshupa.

The food hampers comprised of 10kg rice, 12,5kg maize meal, 5kg sugar, cooking oil, Mayonnaise, Tomato sauce and 2kg washing powders.

In response to COVID-19 regulations, Mr Mchive noted that the mine had reduced its employees from 1 200 to a number ranging between 500 and 700.

Production, he said, was ongoing adding that they had ensured that social distancing and good hygiene were observed.

The mine, he said had a command centre where inquiries on COVID-19 could be directed and a social welfare officer responsible for provision of counselling sessions to mine employees.

Meanwhile, Juire Express in partnership with office of Boteti East Member of Parliament (MP) had donated food hampers worth P3 000 to be donated to 20 families.

Thwaza Transport also in partnership with Boteti East MP donated food hampers worth P15 000 to be given to 50 families.

For his part, Boteti Sub-council chairperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe called on Batswana to join hands in the fight against COVID-19. Ends
