Bobonong registers one suspected COVID-19 case

15 Apr 2020

Chief medical officer supervising the COVID-19 team at Bobonong cluster, Dr Enock Mulomba says they are currently holding one COVID-19 suspect, a Zimbabwean national, at Bobonong Primary Hospital.

In an interview, Dr Mulomba said the suspect, who arrived in Botswana from Zimbabwe last month, was from Mathathane and had had contact with some members of the community.

Although the suspect had presented with headache, Dr Mulomba said he was cleared of malaria, but was still awaiting COVID-19 results.

The chief medical officer said in the unfortunate event that the suspect tests positive, his team would track everyone he had come into contact with at Mathathane.

He emphasised that anyone coming from outside the country would be isolated at the greater Selebi Phikwe isolation centres.

These are four-bed wards in Bobonong Primary Hospital, five-beds in Selebi Phikwe and a 15-bed facility in Mmadinare.

However, Dr Mulomba was relieved that members of the security forces had tightened security at borders to curb border jumping, which posed a risk of transmitting the virus. END
