Kgalagadi North DHMT releases 13 from quarantine
13 Apr 2020
Thirteen people were released from quarantine camps on Wednesday and Thursday in Hukuntsi and Kang respectively.
Kgalagadi North District Health Management Team coordinator, Ms Kgomotso Moruisi said they had 18 people in quarantine; two suspects and 16 contact persons.
She said the two suspects, a 63-year-old Canadian man and a 23-year-old woman had travelled to Canada and India respectively.
Ms Moruisi said the two suspects tested negative and that they also received results for three contact persons who also tested negative.
She explained that after they received the results of the three contact persons, they released eight more contact persons who were suspected to have come into contact with the suspects.
Ms Moruisi said they were left with five contact persons, three in Hukuntsi and two in Kang and that their results were still being awaited.
She also said they had realised that some community members were stigmatising and threatening COVID-19 suspects.
She said the behaviour could result in serious repercussions as people who might be showing symptoms of COVID-19 might stay home and resist seeking medical attention, thereby exposing family members and the community to the danger of contracting the desease.
She urged those involved in such acts to stop because the vice would defeat government’s efforts to control the pandemic. END
