'No new COVID-19 cases Registered'

Botswana has not registered any new case of the coronavirus since the last announcement was made of seven cases last week.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Lemogang Kwape made this pronouncement in a Skype interview on April 12.

Dr Kwape said they had received 3 464 specimen for testing so far and out of that number, 3 115 were tested, 3 102 tested negative while 13 were positive including one death.

He noted that a total of 895 people including 21 Members of Parliament were still quarantined and would be tested after 10 days.

He said the process of quarantine started on March 24 and so far 1 600 people had been cleared to go home.

Dr Kwape expressed hope that the COVID-19 patients kept in isolation at the Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital were doing well. He said they were under the watchful eye of health professionals.

He explained that government was ramping testing capacity and would soon do mobile testing to communities. He said they had engaged about 150 local doctors to help fight the pandemic. Ends
