Pupils may repeat
09 Apr 2020
Minister of Basic Education, Mr Fidelis Molao has cautioned that Pupils may not be able to graduate to upper classes should they miss 60 days of the school learning calendar due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
Contributing to the debate on the proposal of the six months declaration of the state of emergency, Mr Molao indicated that 60 days without school learning would be disastrous, hence the ministry would have to suspend the entire academic level transition.
He said it was worth noting that the closure of the schools was an appropriate decision as it was based on maintaining extreme social distance.
Mr Molao, who is also the Shashe-West MP, pleaded with the public to continue practicing other stringent measures like staying home and keeping prescribed extreme social distancing to minimise risk of contracting and possible spreading of COVID-19.
He said it was important for the public to adhere to the stipulated regulations as the country did not have sufficient health infrastructures and technology to deal with a fully blown pandemic. ENDS
