Police warn those flouting rules

The police will continue to arrest and charge people who defy the rules and regulations put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Station Commander for Serowe Police Superintendent Poloko Oteng said in an interview that since the beginning of the 28 days of the state of public emergency, some people knowingly flout the rules.
Supt Oteng said they had arrested and charged several people for selling traditional beer at their homes without the authority to do so.
He said since the start of the extreme social distancing period they arrested people and charged them different amounts for non-compliance, adding that most of those charged were shebeen owners who were found selling traditional beer at their homes.
Supt Oteng said one person had been arrested and charged for drinking liquor in a prohibited area, two arrested for selling traditional beer without the authority, one person arrested for idling and disorderly while others were charged for unlawful gathering.
On other issues, Supt Oteng said in Serowe, they still experienced crowding at the shops despite the advice by the government to stay home.
He said some walked in groups and the police ended up dispersing them, explaining that the police were not against people who go to the mall to buy essential goods but were against crowding.
He said they would continue to charge people those who loiter around the village. ENDS
