Kalakamati residents have been lauded for their cooperation and compliance to precautions in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kgosi Jenamiso Tshupoeng said Kalakamati people had taken COVID-19 messages seriously and stayed home during period of extreme social distancing.

He stated that only those seeking special permits were seen walking around, adding that they observed instructions by maintaining social distancing when they sought assistance.

He highlighted that the Village Extension Team (VET) had scattered chairs under the tree as a way to keep distance between customers while awaiting issuance of permits.

He highlighted that the team assessed every case closely to vet it and determine whether there was need for a special permit.

Also, he highlighted that his people had taken health and safety measures to heart by avoiding moving to other major villages to access services that were offered in their village.

He indicated that before the state of emergency and extreme social distancing commenced last week, he called all businesses in Kalakamati so that they be prepared for the exercise by stocking up foodstuff and other essential needs.

The village leader noted Kalakamati was endowed with shop outlets that sold groceries, butchery, airtime and electricity, which he said believed were the most essentials needed during such period.

However, he highlighted that most people who required permits were advancing reasons that they wanted to access banking services and post office in Masunga.

Kgosi Tshupoeng said the elderly were common at the special permit counter as they wanted to travel to Masunga post office for their old age pension allowance.

He commended the youth for heeding the call and staying at home during the pandemic, adding youth commonly displayed lawlessness in every part of the country but this time they had been abiding by the law.

He further stated that it was also commendable to see people going to their farms in the morning and return home in the afternoon without diverting elsewhere. ENDS
