Gungwe kgosi appreciates intensified patrols

Kgosi Sonnyboy Buka of Gungwe has expressed gratitude towards Botswana Police Service and Botswana Defence Force for their relentless security measures at the border fence.
Kgosi Buka said Gungwe was troubled by illegal immigrants daily, however that was a story of the past since state of emergency protocols.
He said they got scared when President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi announced a 28-day state of emergency because they thought illegal immigrants would roam their village freely now that residents would be confined to their households.
He noted that their minds were put to rest when a team from the police and BDF was deployed at the border fence to reinforce the few numbers that had been patrolling.
Kgosi Buka said Gungwe was troubled by illegal immigrants who crossed over from Zimbabwe.
He said some of the people would transit through Gungwe and proceed to villages as far as Gulubane, Mathangwane and Masunga if not detained by law enforcement officers. Kgosi Buka stated that some foreigners would even break into households and steal valuables.
He said it was satisfying to see law enforcement officers probing residents on their whereabouts whenever they came in contact with them, be it within the residential area or farms.
That, he said, challenged everyone to be accountable for their movements whenever they left their homes, therefore calling on people to move only when there was need.
Thus, he thanked government for realising the importance of intensifying security at the border at a time when the world was troubled with COVID-19. ENDS
