'Protect children from coronavirus'
08 Apr 2020
Parents have been urged to look after their children and ensure they do not undertake domestic errands that pose a health risk to them.
Kgosi Oateng Setlhodi of Chanoga in North West District expressed concern in an interview that some parents continued to send children to fetch water while some visited relatives during the 28 days of extreme social distancing.
He said such incidents were disturbing because children also failed to maintain social distancing of 1-2 metres between individuals.
“Children interact easily. That can result in direct contact and pose a risk of spreading the corona virus. I urge parents to safe guard their children all the time,” he added.
Kgosi Setlhodi said reports had indicated that children and elders were vulnerable to COVID-19 pandemic, hence the need to ensure they always stayed home.
He also appreciated that the 28-day stay home regulation had affected economic and social life of the communities, but underscored the need to be patient and ensure compliance.
He toured some catchment areas to check on how residents were coping and to encourage them to adhere to the rule until the end of the extreme social distancing period.
Kgosi Setlhodi also addressed some fishermen who camped at one homestead along the Thamalakane River.
It was reported that some fishermen continued fishing despite efforts to encourage people to practice extreme social distancing.
Kgosi Setlhodi appealed to them to stop fishing and stay home. ENDS
