07 Apr 2020
Selebi Phikwe mayor, Mr Lucas Modimana has implored residents to consider whether or not their request for permits to move or travel during the state of emergency period is necessary.
Briefing the media on Monday, Mr Modimana urged residents to abide by the safety precautions as stated by health officials.
He said the risks associated with COVID-19 were immeasurable, hence the need for the community to fully comply.
He said it was worrying that people were still seen in numbers at the District Administration Office seeking permits.
“Ask yourself if it is necessary to leave your home and risk the lives of your family members, town and the country. The non-essential travel has to stop,” Mr Modimana said.
He said government was doing its best to contain the virus and residents should do likewise.
Mr Modimana said the Department of Social and Community Development was carrying out assessments to identify families that needed to be assisted with food baskets.
He implored stakeholders to play their part, ‘as we deliver to humanity during this difficult phase.’ Ends
