Kweneng District invites social workers to register

07 Apr 2020

Retired and graduate social workers have been encouraged to register at the district commissioners’ offices in the three sub-districts in the Kweneng District.

In an interview, Kweneng District council secretary, Mr Goleba Kgari, explained that the invitation came after the council realised the need to capacitate social workers since social welfare services were in demand during trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Kgari said social workers were overwhelmed because they had to assess those whose socio-economic status was likely to be affected by the devastating effects of the pandemic.

Also, he indicated that children who depended largely on the school feeding programme would be assessed and the council would make arrangements to provide food rations to those eligible.

Furthermore, Mr Kgari said schools’ food supply, which was supposed to last the whole of term one, would be rationed to underprivileged families as well as children who depended on the school feeding programme. ENDS
