07 Apr 2020
Kweneng District Council (KDC) is prioritising hygiene in all primary schools in Kweneng District as part of efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council Secretary Mr Goleba Kgari explained in an interview with BOPA that the council made interventions right from the onset of the pandemic to prioritise the health of primary school going children.
The district council made interventions by among others ensuring that sanitisers are distributed to all schools in the district as well as hand wash basins which will be put in strategic places to encourage good hygiene practices in schools.
Dustbins will be provided in every classroom.
Mr Kgari stated that tenders had been awarded in all the three sub-districts in Kweneng to maintain and build new ablution blocks as a matter of priority.
This maintenance and associated works is expected to be completed by the end of April before schools re-open and each school will have two 10 000 litres elevated Jojo tanks to ensure adequate water supply.
Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) together with the council will take care of water supply to the schools. Mr Kgari said if need arises, the council would outsource water from private entities or individuals.
So far the district council has received P15 million from government to kick start maintenance work and the council has started fumigating public offices in the district. ENDS
