Stop abusing permits - Serumola

06 Apr 2020

Kutlwano police station chief says although there has been relative calm and compliance by the public since start of a 28-day lockdown, some employees within the essential services cadre were abusing the special consideration given to them.

Superintendent Neo Serumola said in an interview on Sunday that such employees were now using the permits to crisscross the city on personal errands as opposed to official business.

He appealed to essential service workers to desist from the practice as it could fuel spread of COVID-19 that government was trying to bring under control. He also advised that family members should cut down the frequency with which they travelled to the shops to buy household items.

“Family members should also avoid going to the shops in groups of more than one because that causescongestion at the shops.  And it is unfortunate that the corona virus thrives in congested areas,” he said.

That withstanding, Supt. Serumola said since start of the lockdown on April 3, Kutlwano police had charged only one person for brewing traditional beer in Block Seven location in Francistown.

COVID-19 regulations, according to the police chief, were not meant to punish anyone but came about as emergency powers to try to save the nation from being consumed by the deadly virus that had already killed and infested many across the globe. ends
