18 quarantined In Kanye

A total of 18 Batswana border jumpers, including a 3-year old child were on (April 3) quarantined at Warm Hands Hotel in Kanye.

District Commissioner for Southern region Mr Mmoloki Raletobana explained in an interview that the people were caught at various points along the Molopo river which shares the border with South Africa on different dates.

Consequently,he said they were put on the 14-day mandatory quarantine as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He said the increasing number of border jumpers was putting a strain to the already stretched government resources, as such appealed to the private sector to come forth with pledges to help fight the pandemic.

“In Kanye three lodges have pledged rooms for quarantine and isolation, but we are anticipating that more people will need to be quarantined looking at the way people are casually behaving towards this health crisis,” he said.

He called on members of the public to adhere to health precautions during the extreme social distancing period to avoid spreading the virus. ENDS
