Selebi Phikwe police have arrested 30 Zimbabwean nationals at Torome cattle post for harvesting phane without permission.
Selebi Phikwe Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Pulenyane said in an interview that the people crossed at Ramokgwebana border post on March 11 and were granted 90 days stay in the country.
He said a Motswana woman who allegedly recruited the Zimbabwean harvesters was charged for failure to comply with the public health regulations.
Supt Pulenyane said police officers had been posted to cattle posts to stop anyone harvesting phane during the state of emergency.
Regarding the state of public emergency regulations, he said only one person was allowed to go shopping at the nearest supermarket or grocery store during this time.
He said the police had deployed more officers to deal with congestion at the district commissioner’s office of those who were seeking permits to travel.
Those, he observed were mostly business people, adding that the congestion could lead to high transmission of the virus.
