Ministry suspends marriages
Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs Ms Anna Mokgethi says marriages which were scheduled to be solemnised during the extreme social distancing period will be suspended until after the state of public emergency.
Ms Mokgethi told a media conference, April 02, that the ministry would also suspend some of its functions with direct impact on the prevention and containment of COVID-19 during the extreme social distancing period.
She said the services that would be suspended included all Civil National Registration (Omang) except registration and issuance of death certificates.
She said death certificates would therefore be issued in all Omang offices countrywide, adding where there was a registration kiosk at health facilities, death registration services would be provided at such hospitals and not at district offices.
She explained that issuing of Omang cards would be suspended until further notice and that Omang renewals would thus be done when service resumed.
On gender affairs department, she said the offices would not render any service countrywide.
She said they would instead facilitate all urgent work online during the extreme social distancing period. Ends
