 Kasane Police have applauded residents and liquor traders in the village  for adhering to precautionary measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The station commander, Superintendent James Maabong said in an interview that all establishments authorised to sell liquor had been working harmoniously with police since March 28.

Superintendent Maabong said there was only one incident in which a 63-year-old woman of Kgapamadi ward was found selling an assortment of beverages including traditional brew without a license.

The woman was fined P1 000 and all the beverages were confiscated by the police.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Maabong has revealed that police were grappling with the issue of a group of thugs that was terrorizing residents at night.

Investigations were ongoing to establish whether the gang originated from Kasane or Namibia.

“We tracked their footprints and the footprints ended at the banks of the Chobe River near Sedudu where there were some canoes packed there,” he added.

Superintendent Maabong said police were able to foil the gang’s attempts to break into businesses and individual’s houses.

While promising that police would intensify patrols, he  appealed to residents to be on the look-out and report any suspicious person. ENDS
