Symptomatic intervention critical

District Public Health Specialist in Boteti Dr Solomon Tegegne says symptomatic intervention with regards to Coronavirus is critical.

Dr Solomon who was speaking during the public health meeting held in Letlhakane recently, stated that rapid responses and isolation were essential for those who had high temperatures.

He noted that Letlhakane Primary Hospital would use the TB hub for isolation and Orapa Mine Hospital had designated an area for isolation, adding that there was need to have laboratory support to diagnose cases.

Dr Tegegene stated that it was crucial to respond rapidly, adding that every department should be able to provide sanitisers for its people.

He indicated that there was need to have a sustained intervention especially availability of resources, soaps and sanitiers.

Drugs in general, he said, were not adequate but with regard to the COVID-19 drugs were available.

The Deputy District Commissioner Mr Ewetse Selelo said it was important for all heads of department to engage the District Health Management Team and communicate with the staff in taking precautionary measures.

He urged the public and officers to heed advice from the ministry of health and wellness, saying they should approach the outbreak of coronavirus with sober minds  and not panic.

Mr Selelo said it was important to change the way things had been done.

In response to the outbreak Spar Letlhakane has put precautionary measures in place to ensure their staff and customers’ health and safety. 

The store’s Administration Manager,  Ms Keemenao Musa, said they had taken the decision to sanitize trolleys and display equipment.

Ms Musa said they would have a staff member at the trolley bay equipped with a sanitizing solution and cloth. 

She indicated they would ensure that every trolley was wiped with a sanitizing solution upon its return to the trolley bay.

In addition, she said all tills would be sanitized and there would be a sanitizing station equipped with hand sanitizer at the entrance for customers’ use.

Ms Musa explained that all bread and bakery products would be placed inside a bread bag and there would be no unwrapped bread displayed on the sales floor, adding that all bread rolls would be packaged.

Customers, she said would be advised against bringing kids along for shopping. 

The Assistant Manager Mr Godfrey Ralokwae said they had run out of stock for sanitisers and South Africa had also ran out of stock.

Mr Ralokwae said their supermarket was ready to supply customers in case people intended to stockpile goods.

He noted that movement of customers in their supermarket was very low. Ends
