YWCA urges graduates to diversify economy

19 Mar 2020

Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) graduates have been encouraged to use the skills they acquired to participate in the economy by creating employment.

YWCA is a non-governmental organisation which was founded in 1962 with the aim of empowering women and girls to work towards eliminating obstacles that hinder their holistic growth and development.

Thuso Rehabilitation Centre’s head, Mr Isaiah Moyo said besides creating employment, the 15 who graduated in pattern, dressmaking and design in Maun on Wednesday, could also help diversify the economy.

The class of 2019’s graduation ceremony was themed: Education, Key to Economic Diversification and Sustainable Development.

Mr Moyo encouraged the graduates to make use of empowerment programmes to upscale their lives.

He said gone were the days when vocational training was regarded as a forte for failures because it was now the major source of employment around the world.

He recognised the male graduates for choosing dressmaking as a career, stressing that such promoted gender equality.

YWCA regional coordinator, Ms Sedibana John said the ceremony celebrated excellence and recognised the graduates’ hard work and determination.

She commended them for being patient and cooperative even in the midst of challenges while Kgosi Molefabangwe Setlhare of Sanyedi ward in Maun urged them to continue learning in order to compete globally. Ends
