Parliament has heard that funds for the design of the Lentsweletau-Molepolole road were diverted to fund the fight against the HIV pandemic.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Thulagano Segokgo told the house on March 17 that the Lentsweletau-Molepolole road was once planned for in NDP 8 as Metsimotlhabe –Kopong-Lentsweletau- Molepolole.
He further explained that funds were approved for design and construction of Metsimotlhabe-Kopong-Lentsweletau road and only for design of the Lentsweletau-Molepolole leg.
However, the minister stated that the Lentsweletau - Molepolole road had not been included in the subsequent national development plans, including the current NDP 11, but noted that it would be considered in future with other government priorities.
He said the ministry would continue to undertake routine maintenance of the road by grading.
He said the road was last graded in December 2019.Mr Segokgo was answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Thamaga-Kumakwane, Mr Palelo Motaosane who had asked if the minister was aware that the Lentsweletau- Molepolole road was once planned for.
He also wanted the minister to update Parliament on the current status of the road and whether there were any alternative plans to ensure that people were able to access services in Lentsweletau. Ends
