Collaboration necessary to address GBV
17 Mar 2020
Collaborations could help curtail rising incidents of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Botswana.
Francistown mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo said this at the official opening of a two-day Theology of Work seminar at Francistown Civic Centre recently.
Mr Radisigo said unless such collaborations were established, the problem could spiral out of control.
“It is high time we rope in men into committees that fight gender based violence and tag along women and young girls, who are in essence, women of tomorrow to nip this problem in the bud,” he said.
On others, Mr Radisigo, who is also a councillor for Satellite South, expressed hope that the two- day seminar would help sow seeds of greatness in the people of the ‘City of All Things Precious’ as had been the case in other cities where it was held.
He also hastened to attendants of the danger posed by the COVID-19 that was recently declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
So grave, he said was the situation that government took a deliberate decision to cancel a number of activities with a view to clamp down on COVID-19.
He therefore called on them to take all precautionary measures to avert the spread of the virus.
Dr Kawal Kareah, founder of For This Cause initiative that was running the seminar, said the meeting focused primarily on using the word of God to shift people’s mindsets.
For a long time, he stated, people especially Africans, had been made to think that hard work was akin to slavery, something he said was not only devoid of the truth, but was a total deviation from the doctrine of the Bible.
His mission, he said, was to unravel myths and hopefully break the chain of abject poverty that was reigning supreme in Africa.
Ms Otilda Mpaesele-Tettey also shared Mayor Radisigo’s sentiments and was optimistic the seminar would impart knowledge that would transform the body of Christ in Francistown.
The seminar, she said, was borne out of the love of God, which she said had to manifest among sons and daughters of the Kingdom of God.
“As a believer in Christ Jesus, people should be your pride and joy,” she said.
Mr Bathusi Malope, a product of the previous seminar, said when giving his testimony that the programme had transformed him a great deal.
“I am today an entrepreneur of repute because of the truth and power contained therein by this movement.
The teachings which cut across a broad spectrum of subjects, are going to re-energise you to dream again,” he said.
Retired Kgosi Margaret Mosojane, an embodiment of good morals and the fear of the Lord herself, was hopeful the workshop would stir some sense of purpose in those attending it.
The free for all seminar, she said, was going to be the necessary platform with which people would re-invent themselves and ultimately lead to the rebirth of a nation renowned for its social cohesion and love for one another. Ends
